Multi-File Actions Utility 2.0

Multi-File Actions Utility 2.0 enhances MFA 1.0 with additional content tagging and deletion capbilities.  Below is a summary of the MFA 2.0 features:

Tagging allows multiple files to be selected from a document library that belongs to a single content type and assigned a common set of attribute values. All out-of-the box SharePoint field types are supported with a Silverlight based interface. The interface enables one to copy attribute values from a file and apply them to the selected files.  The content type of the selected file can also be changed from the same screen.

 
Users can delete multiple files from a document library. The default delete in SharePoint moves the file to the recycle bin.  Using the MFA 2.0, users have the option to delete the files permanently.

Below is a summary of the features:

       + Ability to download a group of files as a zip file

       + Ability to drag and drop the selected files

       + Ability to email the zip file

       + Ability to tag multiple files using a common set of attribute values

       + Ability to delete multiple files from a document library.

Pricing:

MFA 2.0 is licensed per Web Front Ent (WFE) of a SharePoint farm.  Each license is priced at $499.00 per WFE.  Please contact Netwoven for volume pricing.

Q: Does this product work on all SharePoint libraries?
A: Yes, this product will work with all types of document libraries including picture libraries. The code adds a menu item to the base document library.
 
Q: Why doesn’t this product work with lists as well?
A: Our product team didn’t see much value in building a multi-action utility for list items.
 
Q: On loading the product page first time it is asking me to install Silverlight. What is Silverlight?
A: Silverlight is a powerful development platform for creating engaging, interactive user experiences for Web, desktop, and mobile applications when online or offline. This product makes use of Silverlight to provide superior user experience. For more information on Silverlight please visit www.silverlight.net.

Q: Up to how many files in a document library does this product support?
A: This product has been tested for satisfactory response up to 1000 files per folder under a document library. Beyond 1000 files there might be some performance degradation.

Q: Does this product support all content types?
A: Yes, this product will work with all content types as long as they don’t have any custom field type. In case a content type has one or more custom field type, those fields will not be rendered in the tagging interface.

Q: Does file sizes matter in loading of document library files in this product?
A: No, file size does not matter in loading time of documents within the document library tree.

Q: I am getting an error “Your email address is not configured..” while trying to send an email. What is wrong here?
A: To be able to send email, your SharePoint account must have an email address associated. If you are not sure how to associate the email address to your profile, please contact your SharePoint administrator.

Q: What is Copy File Attributes on Tagging interface?
A: Copy File Attributes is a useful feature, where you can review existing tagged values for each file within the list of selected files. You can then select a file, which you find is tagged most appropriately to copy the attribute values and tag all files in your selection list by same values.

Q: Why don’t you use the SharePoint 2010 look and feel when it comes to selecting documents?
A: Multi-File Action Utility 1.0 is designed to work with the SharePoint 2007 look and feel. MFA 3.0 will support the SharePoint 2010 interface.

Q: Does this work on 64bit machines?
A: Yes, The product is compiled for both 32 and 64bit architectures.

Q: I want to modify the actions that are shown, how can I do this?
A: Great! We love when people want to extend our products, and make them better. But unfortunately right now the licensing that is on the product does not allow us to release the source code. Q: Do you support upgrading to SharePoint 2010?
A: Netwoven plans to release MFA 3.0 which will support SharePoint 2010.
