Multi-File Actions Utility 1.0 makes working with multiple files under a SharePoint document library very efficient. One no longer has to deal with individual files while downloading the file to their local desktop.

Using the Multi-File Action Utility 1.0 one can select multiple files from a document library and download them together as a single zip file. The selection process is very intuitive with Silverlight based drag and drop feature.  While downloading, the zip file retains the original document library structure.  The download process uses a special chunking alogorithm that ensures that file is downloaded in its entirety.

The Multi-File Action Utility also allows one to create a zip file of multiple files and email it as an attachment.

Q: Does this product work on all SharePoint libraries?
A: Yes, this product will work with all types of document libraries including picture libraries. The code adds a menu item to the base document library.
 
Q: Why doesn’t this product work with lists as well?
A: Our product team didn’t see much value in building a multi-action utility for list items.
 
Q: On loading the product page first time it is asking me to install Silverlight. What is Silverlight?

Q: Up to how many files in a document library does this product support?
A: This product has been tested for satisfactory response up to 1000 files per folder under a document library. Beyond 1000 files there might be some performance degradation.

Q: Does file sizes matter in loading of document library files in this product?
A: No, file size does not matter in loading time of documents within the document library tree.

Q: I am getting an error “Your email address is not configured..” while trying to send an email. What is wrong here?
A: To be able to send email, your SharePoint account must have an email address associated. If you are not sure how to associate the email address to your profile, please contact your SharePoint administrator.

Q: Why don’t you use the SharePoint 2010 look and feel when it comes to selecting documents?
A: Multi-File Action Utility 1.0 is designed to work with the SharePoint 2007 look and feel. MFA 3.0 will support the SharePoint 2010 interface.

Q: Does this work on 64bit machines?
A: Yes, The product is compiled for both 32 and 64bit architectures.

A: Netwoven plans to release MFA 3.0 which will support SharePoint 2010.
